N is for NaNoWriMo

I desperately wanted to participate in NaNoWriMo this year, but as luck had it, I was in the beginning stages of my MS. I’m curious for those of you who have done NaNo– do you plan for it through out the year? Do you time your writing so you begin a new novel in the right month?

Short question for today’s A to Z letter, but I’m hoping to do this next year and feel as if I should start planning now!

I have never participated…and it’s been several years that I keep telling myself to give it a whirl. Just bad timing.

  • I have never participated but it’s not something that really appeals to me. Deadlines and I don’t mix very well.

I considered it last year, for the third book in my contemporary historical family saga, but I had to finish my Russian novel sequel first. I finished it early in November and started the other book, but since I knew the other book would probably finish at around 150,000-200,000 words, I’d never be able to finish it in less than a month. Perhaps I’ll be ready for something shorter at the right time this November.

  • I really wanted to do it too, but I was in the middle of edits for my agent. Maybe we’ll both be able to participate next year. Awesome post and happy A-Z blogging!

  • I love NaNo, and even more now that I realize how much prep work I can put into it during the preceding months. I also like short post for this challenge. If only I could follow my own advice. I think I will for the rest of the challenge. Landing here and reading a short post packed with great content is so refreshing.

Just do it and mold the rules to fit you – after playing by the rules the first two years, I’ve been a rebel since.

And speaking of revisions – your post is up!

I “won” NaNoWriMo last year. I’m not sure if I want to do it this year. I think I’m on the fence because it took so much out of me that all I could do is think about my WIP 24/7. We’ll see how it goes. I have tons of fresh ideas for books, but it’s finding the time to develop them that’s killing me. We’ll see how it goes! 🙂

I heard about Nano in October so I waited a few weeks to start my novel. Worked out pretty perfect. Plan on doing it again this year. It was fun!

  • I have not ever done nano, but I really want to try this year too! I’d like to know the answer to this question too:)
