Secret Santa

It’s that time of year again! Secret Santa was such fun last year that I’m of the mind that we should do it again πŸ™‚

–I have a fun questionnaire of 35 easy questions listed below. Please copy and past the questionnaire into my contact form and email me (you can do this through my “contact” page) with the questions filled out, including your made-up name (see below for details) as well as your real name (just for my benefit).

–This year, I’m going to keep the gift exchange completely anonymous as a way to make the sharing-of-addresses a bit easier/more comfortable. You will have the option of creating a name for yourself, be it “Harry Potter” or “Voldemort” which I will pass along to your Secret Santa person in lieu of your real name. If you don’t care, then feel free to just use your real name. When you send off your gift, you will also have the option of revealing yourself, but this is not a must.

–If you have questions for your Secret Santa, you may email me and I will contact them for you.

–Keep it simple. I will likely not spend over $5. Not having a lot of pocket change seems to come with the territory of being a writer, so please don’t feel like you need to go all out for this πŸ˜‰

–Sign ups will close Dec. 14th. I will email your Secret Santas that following Monday.

Secret Santa, and other things

Hello everyone! Thank you SO MUCH for all of your amazing support over the past month, especially at the beginning of the month. I’m often blown away by how loving this community is. I’m eternally grateful I made the leap into this world πŸ™‚

This morning, I had the idea of a writer’s secret santa hit me in the face. Maybe it’s just me, but I think the idea is amazing and I’m plowing forward with it. I know this time of the year can be financially difficult, so I understand if anyone wants to opt out, but I think that anything, even a card sent to a writer friend would be fun πŸ™‚ I’m not putting a price cap on gifts sent, but I will admit that I probably won’t spend over $10.

So, if you’re interested, shoot me an email with the following details:

Email address
Blog address/Twitter handle
Physical address
Favorite Color
Favorite Book Genre
And two things you love to do if you aren’t reading/writing

I’ll leave this open until December 8th. On that weekend, I’ll email you your secret santa name and address.

Please write in the comments if I missed anything that might be important. I’m fighting a bit of a cold and definitely have brain-mush today.

*Pig is still going strong and seems to be a happy puppy. We have her on prednisone and that seems to be treating her pretty well. We hope she’ll stay with us for a long, long time still πŸ™‚

**I was officially accepted into graduate school to get my masters of elementary education. I’ll start in the Spring and am feeling excited/nervous about heading back to school and working full-time and keeping strong with my writing, but I know plenty of you who already do this and that’s giving me inspiration πŸ™‚

***How’s everyone doing with Happy Snail Mail? I know some of you are still sending letters out. Every time I think you’ve stopped, another one appears in my mail box. I’m hoping to send out another round sometime in December!

W is for Wilderness

The Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness to be exact. Back in ’08 my dad took me backpacking in Montana. I honestly can’t say I’ve ever been to a more beautiful, inspiring place.

We hiked up to the old Independence mining site and climbed Monument Peak, which I’m standing on in the picture below. This area is just north of Yellowstone Park. From the top of Monument we had a clear sight line all the way to the Tetons, 120 miles South. We camped at the base of Monument beside Blue Lake. The icy water was delicious on our sore feet and knees after a day of backpacking.

I highly suggest this area to any hikers/backpackers out there.

I grew up going to Colorado to visit my grandparents which probably accounts for my undying love of the mountains and probably explains why so many of my book ideas are set in the mountains. I always say my muse likes to hang out in state parks. This trip to Montana only strengthened my mountain obsession πŸ™‚

It’s Mah Birfday!

Well…tomorrow is actually my birthday! I thought about holding a contest or giveaway to celebrate, but the Warm Fuzzies Blogfest is coming up in a couple weeks, so I’m going to send out the gift of laughter to you all instead.

I got this comic in an e-mail from my Dad. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.
